How To Avoid Osteoporosis
Each year 1 in 3 women over the age of fifty are diagnosed with Osteoporosis in the Western world, and that 1 in 12 men suffer the same. Osteoporosis is a crippling disease, which tends to make your bones brittle causing fractures to occur.
Thousands of people all over the world are likely to suffer this painful disease, and it’s responsible for millions of fractures annually, mostly involving the lumbar vertebrae, hip, and wrist.
From these figures you will see that women are more likely to have more problems than men, and this is down to the change of hormones during the menopausal period.
The list on how to avoid Osteoporosis is quite vast, and I have listed a few of the basic ones.
Firstly and you’ll find that the Doctors will tell you this, whatever illness you have, or are likely to get is to give up smoking. Then try to cut down on fizzy type drinks, and replace them with Calcium base drinks like that of milk.
Try to maintain some form of light exercise each day but at the same time avoid over exercising. It has been proved many times that people who have pushed their bodies to the limit during their younger years are more likely to have problems as they get older.
It has also been proved that a person who takes a good selection of vitamins such as Calcium, and Vitamin D will have fewer problems as they get older. Also try to cut down on the intake of alcohol, and at the same time make sure that you eat a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Please note after all this doom and gloom. Osteoporosis is not a killer, although it can be very painful for anyone that suffers. Having this disease can slow the bodies defense system down with pain, and that is when other complications set in.
