Where Are You Going Wrong?

We all tend to assume that if we lose weight then miraculously we will get healthy as a by product of this. What we should be doing is looking to get healthy first and lose weight naturally as a benefit of doing this. It is ridiculous to say that one diet suits everyone, because clearly that is not the case. The weight loss industry knows this and thrives on it. All of the major players in the weight loss industry are telling you that their diet or product is the answer to your dreams. In my own quest for the nirvana of dieter’s heaven I have tried many diets and products and often become evangelical about them till the next best thing comes along. The next best thing does not exist. The answer has been staring me in the face all along. A sensible eating plan, plus lots of water and exercise leads to better health and a consequence of this is fat loss.

So if it’s that simple why can’t we just do it and get that perfect health/perfect body. The answer lies in our programming and the result of that are our emotional states particularly around food. Many of my clients eat because they say they are bored. Boredom is a form of anxiety which is an emotional state. We have programmed ourselves to eat when we are bored rather than doing something else to alleviate the boredom. Many people are happy to enter a natural trance state by watching the TV and shove food down their throats. They don’t even taste the food half the time, but get a rush from feeding themselves as serotonin gets released. Then afterwards when the guilt sets in they become depressed. We have all done it, been there got the book and the t-shirt.

So just what is the answer? Those with a vested interest will say that their diet and only their diet are right for everyone. Many therapists will tell you that diets don’t work and that you should not go on them. Well actually diets do work if you stick to them. Most people don’t which is why they don’t work. They are however not long- term solutions and more importantly put you into a mindset of “I am being deprived of food” or “how saintly I have been” or “I must tell everyone about this miracle diet”. I think that a diet must be viewed purely as an eating plan and should incorporate healthy food choices without any emphasis on a particular food group.

Ok I have done this and it is still not working for me so once again what is the answer? My answer to you lies in using Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). These can be used individually or together in various combinations. Most hypnotherapists will incorporate NLP and more and more are now incorporating EFT as part of the therapies that they offer. What these therapies can offer to you who are serious about getting healthier is changing the patterns that have haunted many of us over the years and installing new ones. Hypnosis is very effective in increasing confidence and self esteem, NLP is used to break limiting beliefs and installing new empowering ones and EFT can be used to deal with all the emotional issues that surround your relationship with food.
